Dear MPS Employee, The past year we have done much to rebuild relationships with all of our stakeholders, and now they are waiting to see what happens next. For them, and for some of us as well, there is indeed only one question that matters: Is what we have done and intend to do empty rhetoric or a solid foundation for action that is effective, accountable and sustainable? This is the year when it must all come together. This is our moment to show that we are serious about change, serious about placing the educational interest of children above the interest of adults, and serious about all of us being held accountable for everything we do. This is when we show that MPS can indeed successfully educate every child enrolled in our schools. The level of a student’s achievement can no longer be predicted by race, socioeconomic status, or the neighborhood in which the student resides. Our focus must be on the classroom and what best helps teachers teach. It is in this spirit that every decision we make and every policy we implement will be made. The administration at “807” will become partners with principals in solving problems that frustrate the schools’ ability to truly be environments for learning. Together we will model a school district that exhibits high academic expectations for students, honors employees, and welcomes parents. Finally, we must be a district that plans for the future. We must look at the world as it is, consider all options, and we must act with courage and transparency. The community expects it, and the educational needs of our children demand it.Best regards,William Green |
